6th Grade at Sage

Dear Families,

I received a letter from the Office of Portfolio Development regarding the 6th grade at JHS 190 Russell Sage. JHS 190 will be adding a sixth grade class in September of 2009. The letter does not indicate how many seats there will be, but it does give us some important details.

The information provided me today is:

*All 5th grade students zoned for JHS 190 are eligible to submit an application for the 6th grade at JHS 190.
*The Office of Student Enrollment will provide information about the application process.
*The application process will take place in late winter (2009). Further, the letter provided a broad outline and overview of the present policy and proposed timeline.

Policy:

*All students zoned to JHS 190 in middle school will be offered the opportunity to submit an application to attend JHS 190 in 6th grade.
*There will be no selective admissions criteria for the school.

Timeline:

1. Sometime in December- January- JHS 190 will reach out to students and parents.
2. Open houses for parents and students to visit, as well as other information, will be made available.
3. During the late Winter/ Spring- Application process will take place.
4. All 5th graders will receive an application.
5. We are anticipating a Spring notification for student placement in JHS 190.

This is the latest information I have. As I am updated, I will of course share it with our community.
