AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM – The Parents Association, in collaboration with the school, offers an After School Program for P.S. 144 students on all full school schools, from dismissal to 5:50pm. Students can enroll in a variety of different fun and educational classes.
ANNUAL GIVING: Annual Giving support is essential and our biggest fundraising program throughout the year. Annual Giving has an impact on every facet of the PS 144 experience and benefits every student, every day. In 2016, we raised closed to $51,000, or over 40% of the total funds raised.
AUCTION - P.S. 144's Auction and Reception is our largest fundraiser -raising funds to support art, music and science residency programs. The cafeteria will be transformed for this special occasion, which will consist of a silent auction and raffles. Volunteers are needed for donating auction and raffle items, planning, set-up, clean-up, soliciting donations, and working at the auction. In 2015, the Auction raised almost $21,000.
BACKPACK NEWS - The Backpack News is a bi-monthly newsletter published by the P.A. of P.S. 144. It is distributed to the students who take it home to their parents or guardians.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION - Thousands of dollars can be raised through the Box Tops for Education Fundraiser. Children are encouraged to collect and submit Box Tops. Volunteers are needed beginning in October to count Box Tops on the first Tuesday of the month in the school cafeteria.
CAREER DAY - Professionals come from all walks of life to meet with students to talk about their exciting careers. Many of the professionals come from our parent community. This is a favorite among students! Volunteers are needed to contact participants, set-up, clean up and prepare food for the luncheon.
CLASS PARENTS – Class Parents help facilitate communications between the parents and the school administration to enrich the school experience for the entire school community.
DANCE PARTY – Put on your dancing shoes! We’ll host two parties, one for the upper grades and one for the lower grades.
ELECTION DAY BAKE SALE - Election Day Bake Sale Committee is in charge of recruiting volunteers to bake or donate homemade baked goods and to find volunteers to sell during election day at the school. The Bake Sale will be on Election Day.
FIELD DAYS - In June, all classes will have a “Field Day” which is a day arranged with the gym teachers and the Field Day Committee. Parents are invited to attend those field days and will also be asked to provide additional snacks or drinks to the grade/class.
FIFTH GRADE COMMITTEE - The 5th Grade Committee assists with special 5th grade activities and graduation throughout the school year.
FLAPJACK FUNDRAISER: Meet fellow parents, PS144 staff, and your PA Board! Every year we hold a Welcome Breakfast for new families at Applebee's.
HALLOWEEN PARTY - P.S. 144’s Halloween Party is legendary! Generally held on the Saturday prior to Halloween, it offers games, food, music, dancing, a costume contest, and a special Halloween show and Haunted House. The first floor of the school is transformed and decorated for this special occasion. As one of our biggest events of the year, raising over $8,000 in 2015, volunteers are needed for decorating, clean up, baking, running games, supervision and security.
INTERNATIONAL NIGHT - This event celebrates the various cultures with food, arts and fun & educational activities. Volunteers are needed to represent their country of origin or simply their favorite country.
NOMINATING - The Nominating Committee runs the elections for the P.A. board and School Leadership Team (SLT) in June. Volunteers are needed for preparing and collecting ballots, distributing profiles of the candidates and tallying votes.
PATHWAYS TO KNOWLEDGE – Want to see your child’s name on P.S. 144 Pathway? Buy an engraved brick for your child(ren) with a special message.
PLANT SALE - This committee runs a plant and gift sale in the days leading up to Mother's Day. We offer the children, parents and staff a variety of seasonal plants and gifts to purchase. Volunteers are needed for set-up, clean up and assisting with purchases.
PIE SALE - The week before Thanksgiving the P.A. is sending out order forms for different pies to arrive before the Thanksgiving weekend (on Wednesday).
PICTURE DAY: Smile! Select from individual and/or class pictures for your child.
RECESS COMMITTEE: The recess committee is a group of parent volunteers that collaborates with administrators, staff and third party experts to brainstorm and implement creative and engaging ways to utilize recess time, especially indoors given the challenges associated with the weather during the cold, rainy months of winter. The goals of this committee are focused on supporting a fun, safe and productive recess time for the students whether they are indoors or out.
RESTAURANT FUNDRAISERS: One night a month throughout the school year, take a break and let someone else do the cooking! Each month a flyer will be sent home for a specific restaurant. Visit that restaurant on the specific date and time with your flyer and a percentage of the bills from that night will go towards the PA. Bring your family, friends and neighbors to help raise money for our school!
SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS - This committee coordinates the orders and delivery of the school supply kits. The pre-packaged kits are tailored to the teachers' requests.
SCIENCE FEST – A hands-on science party, where kids of all grades are welcome to experiment and experience the joy of science.
STAFF APPRECIATION - In June, the P.A. hosts a luncheon for all teachers, administrators and staff who work so hard all year round. Volunteers are needed for set-up, clean up and preparing food and desserts.
YARD SALE - The Yard Sale committee sells space to rent on the PS 144 school yard to sell gently used items.
