Parent Association's Committee Descriptions

After School Program – This program provides students with a fun, safe and supervised environment after school hours. Classes are enriching and entertaining and are all taught by licensed teachers.

Auction – This event raises funds to support art, music and science residency programs. A live auction, mystery bags, class baskets and raffle offer fun and unique items. Volunteers are needed for donating auction and raffle items, planning, set-up, clean-up, soliciting donations and baking.

Backpack News – This bi-monthly PA publication serves the entire school community. Learn about all of the upcoming Parents' Association events and school events, as well as get updates from administrators and teachers.

Fall Fundraiser – We offer a variety of gifts and candy to sell to family and friends. Big sellers are eligible to win some great prizes! Volunteers are needed to help organize order forms and distribute merchandise.

Career Day – Professionals come from all walks of life meet with students to talk about their exciting careers. Many of the professionals come from our parent community. This is a favorite among students! Volunteers are needed to contact participants, set-up, clean up and prepare food for the luncheon.

Carnival – Games, prizes rides and family fun is what it's all about. This event takes place on school grounds in the spring. Volunteers are needed for entertainment, set-up, clean-up, manning game booths, rides, refreshment and prize tables.

Class Parents – Each class has Class Parents who work closely with the teacher to support classroom activities and prepare class lists.

Community Affairs – Help keep the school body informed of important events in the neighborhood. Volunteers attend meetings of the Civic Association, Community boards 6 and the 112th Precinct and work with the Community Affairs Liaison.

Fifth Grade Committee – The 5th Grade Committee assists with special 5th grade activities and graduation.

Halloween Party – Generally held on the Saturday prior to Halloween, it offers games, food, music, dancing, costume contest, and a special Halloween show. It's a great time for all! Volunteers are needed for decorating, clean up, baking, running games, supervision and security.

Holiday Boutique – We offer the children a variety of holiday gifts to purchase for their friends and family, as kids' prices! Volunteers are needed for set-up, clean up and assisting the children with purchases.

Hospitality – Our hospitality committee provides refreshments for PA meetings, special events and on occasion for school sponsored events. Responsibilities include purchasing food and beverages prior to the scheduled event. If you shop for your family, you can help without much of a time commitment.

In School Volunteers – This committee promotes parent volunteerism in the school. Activities have included cataloging books in the school library, lunchtime supervision and Learning Leaders tutoring program.

Kids Care (coat drive) – This committee collects gently used coats and clothing that are picked up by local family shelters. This event usually takes place over a two-day period, during the morning hours after students are dropped off fore school. Volunteers are needed to sort clothing and prepare them for pick-up by shelters.

Membership – The Membership Committee encourages parents to volunteer for one of our PA committees. We maintain a list of all members who may be contacted when we need special services. This committee also maintains the PA's e-mail group and may solicit member donations.

Nominating – The Nominating Committee runs the elections for the PA board and School Leadership Team (SLT). Volunteers are needed for preparing and collecting ballots, distributing profiles of the candidates and tallying votes.

Picture Day – Class and individual photos are taken early in the school year. The Chairperson of this committee works closely with the photography studio to coordinate the photo sessions and handles any "customer service" issues that may arise. Volunteers are needed to assist children before being photographed and to distribute photo packages when they are delivered to the school. Additional assistance may be needed on picture re-take day.

Plant Sale – This committee runs a plant and gift sale prior to Mother's Day. We offer the children, parents and staff a variety of seasonal plants and gifts to purchase. Volunteers are needed for set-up, clean up and assisting with purchases.

Pre-K/K Liaison – The Grade Parent(s) for Pre-K and K also serve as the Pre-K/K Liaison. They host a "Welcome Breakfast" to help new parents get acquainted with the school and PA and provide support on any issues that may arise.

Programs – This committee coordinates various programs for both students and parents during the year. Special programs are held during school assemblies or take the form of parent workshops or participatory performing arts workshops for families.

Safety – This committee meets monthly with administrative and custodial staff regarding matters of repair and maintenance. Members of our Safety Committee also sit on the DOE's mandated Safety Committee for our school and have input regarding security protocol. All outstanding safety issue and parent concerns can be brought to the attention of the appropriate staff member by the parent members of the committee.

School Supply Kits – This committee coordinates the orders and delivery of the school supply kits. The pre-packaged kits are tailored to the teachers' requests.

Staff Appreciation – In June, the Pa hosts a luncheon for all teachers, administrators and staff who work so hard all year round. Volunteers are needed for set-up, clean up and preparing food and desserts.
