Principal Quarterly Meeting
December 23, 2009
Attendance:
Reva Gluck-Schneider, Liz Morrow, Maria Cognata, Amy
Woo, Lisa Brody, Jeanne Kwok, Kathryn Thome, Susan
Chin-Louie
Student
Council: There is currently no student
council. Ms. Mayorga and Ms. Gandelman have
expressed interest in running it.
New playground
update: The final design has been approved.
Andrew Hevesi’s office sent a form to complete,
which will be taken care of by Out-to-Play. No date
has been set yet for construction. It will be
approximately 6-8 weeks to complete the project.
Water vending
machine: Mrs. Schneider explained the issues
involving the beverage vending machine in the
cafeteria. While the machine was supposed to supply
bottled water, the vending machine company filled it
with Snapple juice. After 1 ½ years of trying to
fix this error, the machine was removed.
New doors in
school: New fire doors have been installed; it
was questioned as to why, and how they were paid
for. Mrs. Schneider explained that an order came in
to do it; the order was most likely an outstanding
job that needed to be completed. Door will be
painted.
DOE food
regulations: The PA needs clarification on
whether it is allowed to do bake sales for
fundraisers, specifically the 6th grade
bake sale. Regulation A-812 is the “wellness
policy” which is meant to improve the quality of
food and beverages for students. Baked goods cannot
be sold during the school day but is allowable at PA
events after 6 pm.
Alternative
fundraisers to the 6th grade bake sale
were suggested—“smencils” (scented pencils), flower
sale, and “kiss” sale for Valentine’s Day.
6th
grade Broadway show: The 6th grade
will not see Bye Bye Birdie as previously scheduled,
to coincide with the Broadway residency, due to the
show closing on January 24th. There was
some confusion as to who has arranged the show
tickets. It is not done through the
administration. The 6th grade committee
will meet with the 6th grade teachers and
Lois Olshan to arrange another show.
Auditorium
seats: Melinda Katz’s office has given $170,000
for new seats in the auditorium.
School
entryway: The vestibule is slippery when it
rains or snows. The mats currently used do not
cover a sufficient amount of space to prevent people
from slipping. Mrs. Schneider said that there is no
money in the budget to cover the expense of new
mats, but will ask Dave the head custodian for
suggestions. It also needs to be determined what is
legal to install in the front hallway.
