MINUTES FROM MEETINGS

Board Meeting - Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 6:10PM

In attendance: Jeanne Kwok, Maria Cognata, Sue Izeman, Kim Ramazan, Liz Morrow, Tricia Kampton, Caroline Walter, Tamar Ran, Nikki O’Sullivan, Amy Woo

Auction – Live Auction scheduled for March 14th. Tricia will confirm the permit and time with the office.

Discussion around planning for the upcoming event.

  • Teachers and parent solicitation letters scheduled for distribution this week. Could make it a “Save the Date” also.

  • Sub-committees – should reach out to parent body by distributing “sign-up/volunteer” letter. Tricia has sent out emails to parents who had signed up initially on membership forms.

  • Considered purchasing a big ticket item to draw people to Auction – possibly a flat screen TV or laptop.

  • Baskets up for raffle – we should have goods for baskets. May not have Mystery Bags.

  • Possibly of free Admission?

  • Tentative date for Open Auction meeting - Feb. 5

Book Fair – Tricia will go with Lisa Brody to research Book Fair as a possible fundraiser.

Fundraisers

  • Barnes & Noble and Atlas Park Mall – P.S. 144 Days

  • Upcoming events: 3/09 – Auction, 5/09 – Plant Sale

  • Tamar suggested a “dining out to benefit P.S.144 night” on a continuous basis, maybe with California Pizza Kitchen. Frequency – monthly fundraiser where 20% of the bill will go back to benefit our school. Tamar will do further research on this and Atlas Park Mall day.

  • Race for Education – new parent from Mercy (Christa) suggested as a possible fundraiser. Maria in discussions with Rick Marino if this can be tied into Pasta Night or Mighty Milers programs.

Lunchroom

  • From last month’s meeting, concerns regarding the last lunch period (for grades 2, 3 & 4) were brought up to Administration. Issues such as large number of children being served during this lunch period, lack of seating, and shortage of food.

  • Initial changes made by Administration – rotating order of classes as to who is served first and have been visiting and observing during the lunch period. In progress.

6th Grade moving to Russell Sage?

  • There was a meeting at Russell Sage on Friday, Jan. 16th for Parents Associations from the feeder schools.

  • Application process to start soon.

  • There will be 90 available seats (3 classes) for the proposed incoming 6th grade. If there are less than 90 students coming in, will proceed with how many students volunteered. If there are more than 90, then may hold a lottery or divide the number of students equally among the feeder schools. Not proposing to have a “honors” 6th grade class.

  • Will separate 6th grade from 7th and 8th grade students. Will have different bell schedules and different entrance for students.

  • Open House scheduled for Wed, 1/28 6:30 – 8:30PM Open house was rescheduled to 2/1 due to weather conditions.

    Meeting adjourned at 7:12PM.
