Leadership Minutes

SLT Meeting, December 15, 2008 5:30PM

In attendance: Maria Cognata, Liz Schneider, Liz Spears, Liz Morrow, Amy Weiss, Martha Mayorga, Jeanne Kwok, Reva Gluck-Schneider, Marion Herman, Lois Olshan, Kathy Reddy, Amy Woo

• Approved minutes from November meeting

• SLT Training Session: Advanced/Overview – Who is required to attend training? Everyone should attend. The “Overview” sessions are for new members and the “Advanced” sessions are for those who have already attended previous training sessions. The “Overview” sessions were offered in December and “Advanced” sessions are being offered in January 2009.

• Enrichment Cluster update

The pilot program is planned for third grade. The three teachers met with Lois Olshan and they had ideas for different projects: Newspaper, Museum/History, and Playwriting.

Discussions between Lois and teachers included topics such as:
 How to plan for enrichment clusters?
 Format of program
 Duration of program (eight weeks?) – double periods
 One of the teachers would like to go to another school which has enrichment clusters to observe and bring back ideas for further discussions.
 Difference between “clubs” and “enrichment clusters”
 If pilot program is successful then would like to expand it.

• Budget Update

  • Projected cuts will be drastic

  • We have to use our resources to their fullest potential.

  • A little more difficult to plan budget this year because of the projected move of some 6th graders to Russell Sage.

• Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. came to our school. The Senator will be coming back for a tour- he did not have the time on this first visit. It was a meet and greet as well as asking what we might want on a wish list. He also promised to find out the status of the Smart boards that Senator Maltese put in the budget for us.

• Penny Harvest update by Liz Schneider

This year our school was really active and we had our best year ever. The children came up with new and interesting ways to fundraise: book sales, bake sales and toys/garage sales.

Playground

  • The playground is locked up due to the black padding that keeps coming up.

  • $50,000 was donated by Andrew Hevesi for the playground
JR Nocerino will look into if we can change the playground into a NYC Parks dept “playground” instead of a DOE playground.

  • Tricia Kampton, PA Co-Vice President will contact “Out to Play.”

  • Going forward, Liz Schneider will send out monthly request for Meeting Agenda Items.

    Meeting adjourned at 6:26PM
