Attendance: Amy Weiss, Liz Morrow, Maria Cognata, Reva Schneider, Lisa Brody, Barbara Martin, Jeanne Kwok, Amy Woo, Elizabeth Schneider, Lois Olshan, Kathryn Thome, Tricia Kampton

Agenda: CEP Update, Budget Cuts, H1N1 Flu Update, Update on Metro Campus middle school, 5th grade going to middle school, Middle School Choice, Clusters’ Schedule, Amount of money collected in the Residency School Fund, Timing of upcoming meetings.

Meeting called to order at 7:05 a.m.

CEP (Comprehensive Education Plan) Update – The CEP committee finished and submitted the plan for review. The next steps in the process are: From October 30 to November 13, 2009 - School CEPs are reviewed by central NYCDOE offices to determine adherence to federal, state, and local planning requirements. By November 16, 2009 - Feedback is given to schools regarding specific recommendations for revision. From mid-November through early December 2009 - Schools revise CEPs, if needed, in response to feedback provided by central NYCDOE. December 11, 2009 - Finalized (revised) CEPs due to central NYCDOE (OSI). According to the DOE, by December 18, 2009 2009-10 School CEPs will be posted on the NYCDOE website. While the CEP was supposed to be able to be completed online, the system did not work as well as intended.

Budget Cuts– No news on the amounts that may be taken out of the budget, by DOE, yet.

H1N1 Flu Vaccine Update – On November 20th the H1N1 Flu vaccines are scheduled to be administered at PS 144. A 9-person team will come to the school to administer the vaccines.

Metro Campus Middle School, 5th Grade going to middle schools and Middle School Choice Update – There is a CEC meeting on November 5 regarding the Metro Campus, 6th Grade at elementary schools and Middle School Choice. The best guess for next year is that current 5th grade students at PS 144 will be able to stay at PS 144 for 6th grade, go to Russell Sage for 6th grade or apply for a district wide seat at the new middle school on Metropolitan Ave.

Cluster Schedule – The clusters occur weekly. Pre-K – Art/Library (collaboration 1 x week). Kindergarten - Library, Gym (twice), Computer, Art. 1st Grade - Library, Gym, Computer, Music, Art. 2nd Grade - Science, Gym, Computer, Music, Art. 3rd Grade - Science, Gym, Computer, Music, Art. 4th Grade – Science (twice), Gym, Computer, Music. 5th Grade - Science, Gym, Computer, Music, Research (done in conjunction with the librarian). 6th Grade - Gym, Computer (twice), Music, Research (done in conjunction with the librarian).

Residency School Fund – Almost $11,000 has been collected from parents in response to the request for $25 per student to help cover the cost of the residencies.

Timing of upcoming meetings – A decision was made to alternate 7:00 a.m. meetings and 5:30 p.m. meetings.

Next meeting – 12/7/09 at 5:30 p.m. in the Library.
